How is high carbon graphite made?

The flotation method for extracting high carbon graphite has the lowest energy consumption, reagent consumption, and cost in mineral purification. This is the biggest benefit of flotation method for purifying high carbon graphite. But when using flotation method to purify graphite, it can only make infinite progress in the grade of graphite. Regarding flake graphite, it is not only impossible to dissociate its complete monomer, but also not beneficial for maintaining the large scale of graphite. To obtain high carbon graphite with a carbon content of over 99%, it is necessary to use chemical methods to purify the graphite.

    (1) High carbon graphite alkali acid purification method. The carbon content of graphite purified by alkaline acid method can reach over 99%, with characteristics such as low one-time investment, high product grade, and strong process adaptability. It also has strong universality. The purification of non-metallic minerals can accept the advantages of alkaline acid method, which is the most commonly used method in China today..

    (2) High carbon graphite chlorination roasting method. The low roasting temperature and low consumption of the chlorination roasting method result in a significant decrease in the manufacturing cost of graphite. At the same time, the carbon content of graphite products is crucial for their usage and disposal. Compared to the chlorination roasting method, the recovery rate is higher. Strong corrosiveness, high equipment requirements, strict sealing requirements, and proper disposal of exhaust gas are necessary.

The biggest advantage of high-temperature method is that the carbon content of the product is relatively high, up to 99.995%, the equipment is expensive, and the one-time investment is high. In addition, the high electricity bill increases production costs. The harsh production conditions also limit the application range of this method, and several methods for graphite purification each have their own advantages and disadvantages.
