(1) The organizational structure of carbon materials is formed by the preparation of carbon solid aggregate particles and powder raw materials through a series of production processes, so its cutting is composed of a certain number of particles and dust. The large amount of carbon dust generated during the cutting process not only pollutes the operating environment and affects the health of operators, but also the silicon carbide impurities contained in graphite dust can cause certain wear and tear on machine tool components. Therefore, efficient ventilation and dust removal equipment must be installed in the mechanical processing workshop of carbon materials.
(2) Carbon material is a heterogeneous and brittle material, with a considerable range of hardness fluctuations. Roasted carbon products have a high hardness, which makes processing more difficult. Graphite products have a low hardness, making them easy to cut and process. The surface roughness of products processed with carbon materials is to some extent affected by the particle size composition during production ingredients, and the surface roughness of products with fine particle structure is much better than that of products with coarse particle structure.
(3) Mechanical processing of carbon materials involves the impact, crushing, and peeling of surface particles on the structure of the product by cutting tools, resulting in the generation of carbon and graphite particle debris of different sizes during cutting. However, mechanical processing of metal materials involves simply peeling off the surface of the product, resulting in strip shaped chips during cutting.
(4) When cutting carbon materials, a certain amount of cutting heat is generated, but there is no need to use coolant or lubricant on the machining surface. When cutting carbon materials, there will be a certain amount of impact vibration. At the same time, when processing graphite products, due to the presence of silicon carbide on their surface, it is necessary to use high-speed steel or hard alloy tools with high hardness and good impact vibration resistance.
(5) Although graphite material is a brittle material with low hardness, it has more severe wear on the cutting edge during low-speed cutting than when cutting cast iron. Therefore, high-speed cutting is recommended for cutting graphite material.
(6) The processing batch of carbon materials is large, with similar basic shapes and sizes, and special fixtures and measuring tools need to be equipped. The processing of graphite materials often involves the use of multi blade turning and milling techniques.
