    1. Varieties of graphite electrodes

Electric arc steelmaking furnaces are generally divided into three categories, namely ordinary power electric furnaces, high-power electric furnaces, and ultra-high power electric furnaces. Corresponding to the power level of electric furnace steelmaking, graphite electrodes are also divided into three types, namely ordinary power graphite electrodes (code RP level), high-power graphite electrodes (code HP level), and ultra-high power graphite electrodes (code UHP level). The nominal diameter of the electrode ranges from 75mm to 700mm. The physical and chemical properties of high-power and ultra-high-power graphite electrodes are superior to ordinary power graphite electrodes, such as low resistivity, high bulk density, high mechanical strength, low linear expansion coefficient, and excellent antioxidant performance. The physical properties of three types of graphite electrodes are shown in Table 1.

Selection of graphite electrodes for AC arc steelmaking furnace

The diameter of the distribution pole of the AC arc steelmaking furnace is shown in Table 2. Different types of graphite electrodes should be selected for electric furnaces with different powers, such as high-power electrodes for high-power electric furnaces. The selection of graphite electrode diameter varies for different power electric furnaces, and it is generally believed that ordinary power electric furnaces choose RP electrodes with a diameter of 75-500mm; Select HP electrodes with a diameter greater than 300mm for high-power electric furnaces; UHP electrodes with a diameter greater than 400mm are selected for ultra-high power electric furnaces.
